Workshop & Talks

Workshops

Currently, no workshops by Jay Maisel are planned.

Talks

His talk will be on Light, Gesture, and Color and is suitable for all skill levels.

Course Description: Light, gesture, and color are synonymous with all of Jay Maisel's images. These elements, coupled with an awareness of figure-ground relationships or photographic optical illusion, constitute a crucial part of image presentation. In this seminar, Maisel will show you how and why images challenge perception and why you do not always see what you think you see. The emphasis will be on perception, not manipulation.

Edition Information

Edition and Signature

Edition prints are signed by Jay Maisel. Generally, the edition number and signature are located on the bottom corners on the front of the print. Depending on the image, however, Jay may choose to sign the edition on the back if the edition number and signature interferes with the image. Signature on the 40"x60" Metal Prints are laser engraved with the edition number and signature on the back of the print.

What’s the Edition Size?

Edition sizes printed on paper are 13"x19", 20"x30", and 40"x60". They are limited to an edition number of 25 for each size. The 40"x60" metal prints are limited to an edition number of 16.

The actual image size on 13"x19" edition is 12"x18" with a 1" border. The actual image sizes for 20"x30" and 40"x60" editions are true to size with a 1"-2" border. The 40"x60" Metal is true to size without a border.

Will my photographs look exactly as they do online?

We strive for the best accuracy of our color prints by using calibrated printers, monitors, and cameras. However, the color of your print may differ from the color reproduction of any given computer screen as all computers are calibrated differently. Computers are also lit from behind, which can affect the level of brightness of an image.

When Will My Order Ship?

Your order will be ready to ship out within 10 days or sooner after an order is placed. Once your order has been placed, the print will be numbered and signed by Jay, packaged, and mailed.

Paper Types

Baryta

Jay's newest editions are printed on Epson's Legacy Baryta paper.

Legacy Baryta is a paper with a white, smooth satin finish. There are two barium sulfate coatings with an industry leading microporous inkjet receptive layer that produces deep, rich blacks (Dmax), expanded color gamut and gentle tonal gradations. This paper delivers the look and feel of the revered silver halide F-surface darkroom papers and will provide excellent image permanence.

Ultra Premium Luster

Epson Ultra Premium Luster is a media that is trusted by portrait and photo specialists. It is one of the most popular choices for printmakers in the digital era. This paper has an instant-dry surface that produces vivid, lifelike images, superior ink coverage, and a high D-Max to ensure high reproduction quality prints.

Dye-Sublimation onto Aluminum (Metal)

Sublimation onto metal is a new, cutting-edge, way to reproduce an image. Sublimation itself is the process of going from a solid to a gas, back to a solid - skipping the liquid state. The aluminum and transfer paper are placed into a custom heat press, which is heated to temperatures exceeding 380 degrees Fahrenheit. While being subjected to extreme heat and pressure, the dyes from the transfer paper turn into a gas, are pressed into the surface of the metal, and then solidify into the treated aluminum. As the dyes cool they are permanently infused beneath the surface of the metal substrate
